How do you tell if that crack in your property is serious or not?
Most of the materials used to build a house are not flexible. When those inflexible materials are subjected to movement in the earth/foundations or footings, cracks can result.
A crack is more of an indication that there might be an underlying issue rather than being an issue in and of itself. Common reasons for cracking include;
* Sagging ceilings
* Excessive settlement
* Steel beams rusting
* Doors/windows out of square
* floor are out of level.
A building assessment will provide a summary of the cracks present and if they are something to be concerned about, such as indicating a more severe structural issue.
